Rain stops play…..surprised?

May 26th, 2011

The cricket season is upon us and – surprise surprise – it’s raining. It’s amazing how many days of sunshine we’ve had already this year yet the minute England decide to play cricket the rain arrives. Part of the problem is that the test match is being played in Wales – somewhere that isn’t known for its good weather, especially in May. It seems a strange decision to put the first test match of the summer in Wales – why not leave it until July to play in Cardiff? The weather is less likely to be a problem then.

Hopefully we get some cricket to watch today but I’m not that hopefully. If there are a few overs play then I think that’ll be a good result, but unfortunately it looks like the game has draw written all over it already. There are going to be a lot of angry people wondering whether it was just money reasons that the test match was staged in Cardiff. There’s also been rumours that the ground is going to be half empty – not a good advert for cricket in Wales!

I’ve got tickets to see the third test match so I’m really hoping the weather is fine for that. There’s nothing more frustrating than paying for tickets, making the long journey and arriving an hour or so early only to sit in the stands all day hoping for the rain to stop. It’s only every happened to me once but it wasn’t a fun day. As long as there is some play you get your money’s worth though, but I really hope I get to see a full day’s play when I go.
