Being a Girly Girl I like pink things, pink bags, pink hats… a pink blog! So, with that in mind, Ill give you three guesses as to what colour my new phone is :p

You got it! Ok I have not gone completely crazy here, for me, this is pretty tame, and may I say a very sensible decision! I say this because I opted for a very restrained blackberry instead of the nokia alternative:

Would you believe those are the only two Pink Qwerty phones agvailable at the moment, and so close to Christmas too!

Im pretty pleased with my new phone, I have to say, the Nokia was a bit too wild even for me, and I could not see myself pulling that out at work in front of everyone. I guess I am a few years too old for that one. Besides, BlackBerry have a solid reputation for email which is something I really wanted, and they have a facebook and twitter app (I guess I should hook those accounts into this blog somehow, as I rarely post on here any more, but am on FB / Twitter a lot these days).

The twitter app is pretty crazy on the move with a proper keypad, Im turning into one of these people who tweets away whilst driving at 50mph down the main road… or I would be if I had a car, I am actually one of these people who tweets away at 60mph on the train to work and back each day. Its “dead time” to a point, being able to catch up, and update my status with that time is pretty nice, though I am sure there are more productive ways I could be spending my time! Maybe Ill actually start calling people with it sometimes! That said, I dont like talking on the train where I can be overheard, one of the reasons I prefer to tap away at the keypad, its more private.

That said, I have an absolute bundle of minutes I do not really need so I will have to start calling a few more people! I ended up with excessive minutes after searching for mobile phone deals here. I actually found a cheaper deal with more minutes than I was originally looking for, Im not sure how that happened, but, it seemed silly to pay more for less, so I ended up with more and paid less… if you get the difference!

Phone deals kind of confuse me to be honest, I tried buying one in a shope but the guy just baffled me to be honest and did not seem to want to discuss too many options, like he had made his mind up what I should buy… deny me shopping time, how dare he!

I found comparison sites a lot easier as you can peruse endless deals for as long as you like and its pretty easy to compare the prices, minutes etc, certainly a lot easier than it is in a shop, and you dont have to worry about the thing breaking on you either as the mobile network (three network in my case) look after that side of things anyway… delivery is fast too

So, there we have it, I am now officially a BlackBerry user, without betraying my pink roots!

Happy Christmas!

Have you ever heard of a Liger before? I never had until yesterday, but apparently it’s a form of big cat that’s a cross breed between a tiger and a lion. I wouldn’t have believed it until I saw a picture on the BBC News website of a dog that’s taken over the care of two Liger babies because the mother tiger didn’t want to look after them.

Although Ligers aren’t found in the wild they are the biggest cats in the world, growing far bigger than either tigers or lions. I find it amazing that two different species can breed like that – but it’s probably a good thing they aren’t in the wild because apparently they are very aggressive and quite vicious.

I also read that there are rumours that there used to be Ligers in the wild when the habitats of tigers and lions overlapped. That would be a scary thought having these Ligers roaming the countryside, you definitely wouldn’t want to come across a pack of them otherwise you’d be in trouble. I think it’s surprising that most people haven’t heard of Ligers – I’d imagine they’d be a major tourist attraction for those zoos or establishments that have them. I’m not sure about the health of the ligers though, it is safe for them to be bred together?

The cricket season is upon us and – surprise surprise – it’s raining. It’s amazing how many days of sunshine we’ve had already this year yet the minute England decide to play cricket the rain arrives. Part of the problem is that the test match is being played in Wales – somewhere that isn’t known for its good weather, especially in May. It seems a strange decision to put the first test match of the summer in Wales – why not leave it until July to play in Cardiff? The weather is less likely to be a problem then.

Hopefully we get some cricket to watch today but I’m not that hopefully. If there are a few overs play then I think that’ll be a good result, but unfortunately it looks like the game has draw written all over it already. There are going to be a lot of angry people wondering whether it was just money reasons that the test match was staged in Cardiff. There’s also been rumours that the ground is going to be half empty – not a good advert for cricket in Wales!

I’ve got tickets to see the third test match so I’m really hoping the weather is fine for that. There’s nothing more frustrating than paying for tickets, making the long journey and arriving an hour or so early only to sit in the stands all day hoping for the rain to stop. It’s only every happened to me once but it wasn’t a fun day. As long as there is some play you get your money’s worth though, but I really hope I get to see a full day’s play when I go.

I went to the doctors today and apparently I have bursitis below my knee, which is very annoying. I fell on it a few weeks ago and it hasn’t got better and is very tender to touch, and apparently this is why. The only cure for it is complete rest from anything that causes pain, which isn’t easy because I’m training for a marathon in a few months. Hopefully it’ll settle down quite quickly, but apparently it can take a while.

One thing the doctor mentioned is that I might be able to have a cortisone injection directly into the bursa. This gets rid of any swelling straight away, so sounds like a good option, but apparently there are other risks. Does anyone else have any experience with cortisone injections, specifically for bursitis?

I think what I’ll probably do is give it a few weeks and see what happens, then go for the injection if things don’t get better.

The embarrassing thing is that this injury is known as housemaids knee because it used to be associated with women who spent a lot of time on the floor cleaning! That’s a difficult one to explain to the friends.

On a side note the marathon training has been going quite well for a while now. I’ll keep this blog updated with my progress whenever possible, but I’ managed a 15 mile run the other week and didn’t feel TOO bad after it. I’m well on course for being able to complete the marathon, I’ve just got to decide whether I want to set myself a ridiculous target or whether finishing it is the main goal!
